Air Tahiti flies to 47 islands of the French Polynesia from Papeete. Within Society Islands, where Bora Bora is located, Air Tahiti arrives at Rangiroa and Bora Bora Airport.
Faa’a International Airport serves regular flights to Bora Bora, and in the peak season between July and August, there are extra flights departing Papeete to the island, up to 9 times a day. Most are direct flights and others are stopovers at Moorea, Huahune, Raitea and Maupiti. If you choose to stop at one of these islands, it’s a good idea to purchase a Pass Bleu which allows you to visit each of these islands at a discounted fare.
Direct flights from Papeete to Bora Bora take 45 minutes, and depart in the day, with the last Air Tahiti flight leaving at 5.30pm. Not many flights in French Polynesia fly out or in at night as the runways are not lit. Flights can depart as early as 20 minutes before schedule, so it’s important to stay alert for early departure announcements.
When connecting from your Tahiti flight to your Bora Bora flight, bear in mind that Air Tahiti requires check-in one hour prior to departure time. International and inter-island flights depart from the same airport so as you come out from customs, the terminal for your connecting Air Tahiti flight will be on your right.
The aerial views on your flight to Bora Bora are truly spectacular and an experience you won’t want to miss. You’ll want to get the best seat on the aircraft for these unforgettable views. As seating on inter-island flights are open seating, you’ll need to be in the queue early. As you make your way into the aircraft from the rear, find a seat on the left side.
This side of the flight’s path enjoys beautiful views of the Huahine, Raiatea and Bora Bora as you draw near to landing at your destination. The right side still enjoys some distant views of Maupiti and Tetriaroa.
